For most of software’s history, the hard part was building. If you could ship it, you had an edge.

That has changed quietly over the last few years. With AI, most teams can build a working product in weeks. Ask a model for a settings page and you get the one it has seen most often: it works, and it looks like everyone else’s.

What pulls a product away from that middle is taste, and most of it has reasons you can name. A menu opens fast because people open it fifty times a day. An error says what to do next. An agent’s action can be seen and undone. None of this appears on a feature list, but it is most of what makes people trust a product.

Taste also does not scale by itself. So we write it down early, as foundations: the primitives, the components, how the product speaks and behaves, kept as rules your team and its agents build with.
